PAS will remain in Pakatan Rakyat, says Abdul Hadi
(The Star) – Amid heightened animosity with its political partners, PAS has decided to continue being part of Pakatan Rakyat.
But PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party would not compromise on its Islamic agenda.
He said PAS never meddled in the affairs of PKR and DAP although both parties have their own agendas and policies to fight for.
“We never interfered in their affairs and we never asked them to change their secular ways,” he said in his policy speech during the first day of the PAS 61th muktamar here, Thursday.
He also appeared to be taking a swipe at DAP, accused of interfering in PAS’ internal affairs for allegedly endorsing progressive leaders in the party election.
“We also never told them on who should or shouldn’t be the office bearers,” he said, to a loud chant of Allahuakbar (God is Great) from the crowd.
He also reminded his counterparts in PKR and DAP that the tahaluf siyasi (political pact) was forged after the Opposition won in 2008, where they all agreed over the common policy framework.
“We all agreed to fight together against oppression, corruption, leakages and mismanagement and this has been our guideline.
“Although we are aware that our partners practise secularism, which is of course against PAS, we never asked them to change their secularism ways,” said Hadi.
