‘Sullen’ Mat Sabu says baffled with little love in PAS polls
(Malay Mail Online) – PAS’ Mohamad Sabu admitted today he was left “sullen” since last night after garnering “so few” votes in the fight for the party’s deputy president post yesterday.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, joked that he was baffled at the “weird” result after he was crushed by former vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man by 881 votes against his 279.
“Losing is nothing, but my votes were too few. That was why I got so sad. Losing is normal. I am used to losing and winning,” a smiling Mat Sabu told reporters at the sidelines of the 61st PAS muktamar, or annual congress.
“But this time [the votes] were so few. That was weird,” he added, to a loud laughter from the reporters.
According to Mat Sabu, he will now take “a short leave” from politics, to consult his wife on his future.
“I will remain in the Islamic struggle and keep holding it.”
He however stopped short of saying he will leave to join another party or the pressure group Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa).
Last night, Tuan Ibrahim edged out Mat Sabu, giving the clergy class or ulama, a clean control of the party’s highest two leadership posts together with president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who was re-elected.
