Khairy should advise PM to step down like Badawi did
Political analyst Shahbudin Husin says Mahathir Mohamad wants to get Najib Razak to step down before GE14 in 2018 to save Umno/BN.
(Free Malaysia Today) – A four-eyes meeting between Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, as suggested by Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin to resolve their differences, was no longer in the latter’s dictionary and calculations. “It’s in any case too little, too late. Khairy should advise Najib instead to step down just as Abdullah Badawi, his father in law and Najib’s predecessor, did.”
“Even if there’s a four-eyes meeting, Mahathir will demand that Najib step down to save Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).”
Mahathir has only one objective now, according to the political analyst, and that’s to get Najib to step down before the 14th General Elections come 2018. “He wants to make sure that BN can still win the GE the next time,” said Shahbudin Husin who has written quite a few books on politics. “He has already said that the time for talking with Najib was over since he has refused to address the 1MDB issue and the Altantuya killing.”
“If Najib agrees to an open debate, Mahathir would be willing to consider it. So far, he had only wanted to know about the 1MDB monies which have gone missing and who directed Najib’s bodyguards to kill Altantuya.”
Mahathir, he reminded, was willing to debate Najib as shown by his willingness to turn up at the Nothing2Hide Forum last Friday. “Mahathir’s willingness to be with the people to get Najib to step down shows that there can no longer be any compromises.”
Khairy should know based on his own experience with Badawi who had a four-eyes meeting with Mahathir that it would not work, he added. “Badawi had to step down in the end because Mahathir cannot be persuaded otherwise once he has taken a position.”
