All-ulama line-up likely in PAS’s first post-muktamar meet today
(The Malaysian Insider) – PAS is expected to form an all-ulama leadership for the party as it meets for the maiden central committee meeting tonight, less than a week after the party concluded its 61st muktamar (general assembly).
With the professionals in the party refusing any appointments after being almost swept aside in the party elections, the pro-ulama faction is expected to have “monopoly” over all major positions.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur, and will be chaired by president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
PAS organ, Harakah Daily reported today that the meeting will see appointments of new secretary-general, treasurer, information chief and election director.
The party is also expected to appoint new faces to the posts previously held by the professionals who have refused any appointments following the fractious muktamar.
“The issue now is whether Datuk Mustafa Ali will be retained as the secretary-general.
“In the last meeting, Hadi had tried to replace him with Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan but the idea was rejected by the then vice-presidents,” a source told The Malaysian Insider.
Mustafa and treasurer Asmuni Awi both did not contest any position in the recent elections.
Hadi will chair a pre-council meeting with the party’s management committee, which is the highest management body in PAS, before forwarding the decisions to the central committee.
The council comprises of the president, deputy president, vice-presidents, Youth chief, Ulama chief and the Muslimat chief.
