Severing ties with DAP clear and final
(Bernama) – The resolution of the PAS Ulama Council Conference to cancel political cooperation with the DAP is considered final because it was decided by the highest decision-making body.
Referring to the emergency motion on the matter which was tabled in the assembly at Taman Melewar, Gombak recently, former PAS central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa regarded the decision made as clear and need not be questioned.
“Muktamar is the highest body, based on Clause 7 of the party’s Constitution that any decision made by the muktamar is the highest one.
“(The motion) is not about to bring it, but to decide to cut ties with DAP… they did not use the word ‘to propose’ but to ‘urge’ in the motion to the committee and Syura Council during the assembly,” he said when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby here, today.
On Wednesday, the Dewan Ulama unanimously approved the emergency motion to cut ties with DAP at the 61st PAS annual assembly without debate, but would continue political cooperation in the opposition pact.
Dr Mujahid, who is also Parit Buntar Member of Parliament, said if the motion had any problems, definitely the party spiritual leader would have played his role not to allow it to be passed without debate.
“But the problem now is that the party spiritual leader himself did not obstruct the motion, nothing (more) to say about it…(so) I fall back on the party’s constitution,” he said.
Subsequently, Dr Mujahid said he was also making his decision to step down as member of the board of the Penang Islamic Foundation which was under the State Government to respect the decision of the party.
In the meantime, PAS assistant Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan said the party did not issue any directive to PAS members to step down from posts under the administration of the Penang State Government.
On the other hand, the Kota Bharu Member of Parliament said the resignations would be their personal decisions.
Asked if PAS would leave Pakatan Rakyat following the decision to cut ties with DAP, Takiyuddin said the PAS Syura Council had yet to make a final decision on the matter.
He said a central committee meeting would be held for the first time to decide on several important posts including Secretary General, Treasurer, Information Chief and others.
Asked if PAS would hold a Syura Council meeting soon to decide on the direction of PAS in the near future, Takiyuddin said: “I don’t have further details on the meeting.”
