How can you serve Penang after cutting ties with us? Guan Eng asks PAS reps
(Malay Mail Online) – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng accused today state PAS leaders who were still holding on to their government posts of undermining the DAP-led state administration after the Islamist party chose to break off their political partnership.
Lim said those who have “unashamedly” refused to resign even when PAS passed a motion to sever ties with DAP, have devalued the dignity and honour of the Islamist party in the eyes of the public.
“As the Chief Minister of Penang in my capacity as DAP Secretary-General, PAS severing ties with DAP is effectively severing ties with me as Penang Chief Minister,” Lim said in a statement.
“How then can the four PAS councillors serve the Penang state government effectively when their party has severed ties with DAP, not just me but also Penang DAP State Chairman and Penang Local Government Exco Chow Kon Yeow?”
Lim also praised Penang PAS information chief Rosidi Hussain for resigning from his post as the director of Penang Youth Development Corporation, joining others from the Islamist party who have since resigned, like former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and MP Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
The Bagan MP also slammed newly-elected PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad for allegedly accusing him of extremism and racism with his call for PAS representatives to resign.
“It is regrettable that PAS is behaving like Umno when I had announced earlier that any vacated posts by PAS will be filled by Malays who supported the Penang state government administration headed by me,” said Lim.
On Saturday, PAS approved a motion to stay in PR but cut ties with DAP without debate, but secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali insisted this still needs the endorsement of its advisory Syura Council.
Despite that, Datuk Dr Khairuddin Aman Razali, the information chief of the Ulama wing who proposed the motion against DAP, has said that PAS assemblymen need not resign from their government posts in Penang and Selangor as the party is only severing ties with DAP and not PR.
Sabak assemblyman Sallehen Mukhyi also insisted that PAS executive councillors in Selangor will continue working as usual with PR allies as long as the motion to sever ties with DAP is not finalised.
