Will irresponsible Pakatan leaders destroy M’sia’s future?

It is rather amusing to constantly read about the possibility of PAS or DAP divorcing each other and leaving the Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance.

And while those two bicker, PKR is said to be trying its best to prevent the split.

PAS and DAP seem to have become the parents – it’s left to us to figure out who is father and mother – of an increasingly unhappy marriage.

And their highly-publicised quarrel is slowly but surely proving BN’s contention that Pakatan is nothing but a mere marriage of convenience.

PKR plays the role of the child, one who hates to see his parents go their separate ways, especially since many of their relatives (the rakyat) apparently want to see the couple continue their ties.

The outbursts and public declarations, culminating in PAS’ formal passing of a resolution to sever ties with DAP, shows only one thing.

These politicians have no respect for their voters.

They assume that each one of them represents the people, but the way they are behaving is typical of a selfish person, and they don’t seem to have an inkling that they are damaging rather than leading a country.

Firstly, our leaders should ideally be matured with a deep understanding that we live in a multi-ethnic society with a diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.

We’re living in modern times, not the medieval age!

And our leaders represent Malaysia, not a “PAS-asia” or a “DAP-asia.”

It means that they must be sensitive and rational when they are out championing issues governing a country as diverse as us.

But not a day passes without someone in DAP or PAS berating the other through the social media networking or the online or mainstream media.

Is it really necessary?

They should just make up their minds once and for all – should we work together or should we exit!

And their quarrel should be kept from becoming a public spectacle.

Common lah! Be the leaders that the people elected you to be.

Why drag the people into your dispute, which is growing ever so petty by the day?

As PAS hits DAP and vice-versa, they are showing how disconnected they have become from the people.

Malaysians are more interested in solutions to serious problems, like preparing for natural disasters more effectively following the Sabah earthquake

It also includes handling floods, freak storms and road mishaps as well as dealing with the illegal entry of political and economic refugees in huge numbers because our borders are porous.

What about the rising living costs, brought on by the GST?

And, why is the ringgit sliding down? It may reach its lowest ebb ever of RM3.80 to the US$1?

Why should PAS and DAP be must constantly be reminded that they are part of a government, and must fulfil their obligations to govern in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan?

After all, this is what they had promised the people while out campaigning in the previous general elections.

“DAP and PAS seemed to have forgotten that they were part of something “special,” says former PKR parliamentarian Yusmadi Yusoff.

He extolled that the world is watching Malaysia intently, and I asked him why?

He declared that never before in the world, do we see a partnership between progressives or a socialist -driven party like DAP working with an Islamist-driven organisation such as PAS.

“Tell me where in the world, is an Islamist party working with a socialist in today’s global politics.”

They might have done it previously in the Middle East politics, but eventually such partnerships, especially those between Muslims and Christians have since evaporated, Yusmadi said.

Sadly he conceded that both sides in Pakatan may have reached the point of no return.

Malaysian politics will never be the same now, but more importantly, there is no leadership to lift the country out of the present economic and political doldrums, he concluded.
