Members of parliament want Tabung Haji to keep TRX land

Tabung Haji

(Bernama) – Several Members of Parliament (MP) have urged Tabung Haji (TH) to reconsider selling the land in Tun Razak Exchange (TRX).

Datuk Liang Teck Meng (BN-Simpang Renggam) said TH will stand to make more profit if they keep hold of the 0.63-ha land.

“From a business point of view, the land will bring more profit, if it is not sold,” he said when interjecting the winding up of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh (BN-Kalabakan) also supported the proposal saying TH has the expertise in conducting good business over the years.

Datuk Nawawi Ahmad (BN-Langkawi) said the proposed sale of the land was made following political perception.

“I urge the minister not to sell the land but keep it as it will bring bigger profit for Tabung Haji,” he said.

“We urge that the land is not sold because the price of land keeps rising,”he added.

Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid (BN-Kota Tinggi); Datuk Seri Noh Omar (BN-Tanjong Karang); Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (BN-Tanah Merah) and Datuk Othman Aziz (BN-Jerlun) also supported the proposal.

Support also came from Datuk Dr Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad (PAS-Pasir Puteh) who congratulated TH for making a good purchase.

In welcoming the support, Jamil Khir said he would urge TH board members to review the proposed sale of TRX land.

“I received strong support for Tabung Haji not to sell the TRX land and take note of it,” he said.

Jamil Khir said TH received several bids to buy the TRX land and was studying the offers.

TH was slammed for purchasing the land at RM188.5 million from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

On May 9, TH decided to sell the TRX land on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as show of respect for the sensitivity and trust of the depositors.
