Reezal to sue over claim of 1MDB bailout
Amanah Raya Chairman demands apologies from Tanjong MP and news portals
(Free Malaysia Today) – Amanah Raya Berhad (ARB) Chairman Reezal Merican Naina Merican has confirmed that he will sue Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik unless he apologises for claiming that the company was involved in a bailout of 1MDB.
He told a press conference outside the Dewan Rakyat today that Ng had refused to accept a letter demanding an apology. He added that similar letters of demand were served yesterday to The Malaysian Insider and Free Malaysia Today, which reported Ng’s allegation.
The letters demanded retractions and apologies within seven days.
Reezal said he had begun legal proceedings against Ng.
Last Wednesday, Ng told a press conference that ARB had released a RM2 billion loan to 1MDB following Reezal’s appointment as its chairman.
Citing “insider sources”, he also said ARB’s former chairman, Dusuki Ahmad, and its former managing director, Ahmad Rodzi Pawanteh, were “forced” to leave the trustee company because they refused to give the loan to 1MDB.
Also on Wednesday, Reezal denied the accusation in a media conference. 1MDB President Arul Kanda Kandasamy has also denied it, as has Dusuki in a Facebook posting.
Reezal told reporters today that Ng’s allegation was “slanderous, wild, and baseless”.
