Spell out what Pakatan’s ‘death’ means, DAP told
(Malay Mail Online) – DAP must state plainly what its unilateral declaration of Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) “death” entails, the Penang chapter of PAS said today.
New Penang PAS Commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff (pic, left) said the confusion over DAP’s announcement yesterday has left many parties concerned.
“Penang PAS feels that there needs to be efforts to clear the air on this issue,” he said in a statement issued today.
“As we all know, PR is a coalition of three allies ― PAS, DAP and PKR ― without any party being the leader of the pact so any actions are done through consultation between all three parties,” he said.
He also questioned why DAP issued a statement on the status of PR without any discussions between all three parties.
Muhammad Fauzi said would have been more logical had DAP announced its intention to leave PR rather than to announce that PR no longer exists.
“As of now, our other ally, PKR, is yet to issue any statement on this confusion and we would like to stress that Penang PAS still maintains a normal relationship with the state PKR,” he said
He added that the Islamist party in the state has no problems in continuing on with its party work efficiently for the sake of its supporters and the people.
In a statement declaring PR’s death yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng blamed Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for the coalition’s demise, saying the PAS president’s recent actions as well as the PAS Muktamar’s decision to sever ties with DAP meant PR’s Common Policy Framework (CPF) was broken.
PAS on June 6 confirmed its decision to sever ties with DAP while still remaining in PR with PKR, after its motion to do so was approved without debate.
The two parties have been openly hostile over PAS’s ambition to enforce hudud in Kelantan.
The development drove DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to declare PR dead and awaiting “funeral rites”.
