1MDB: We’ve replied, now Dr M wants evidence
(Bernama) – 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) said today all evidence and proof on business and financial transactions have been shared with independent auditors and lawful authorities.
1MDB was replying to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s latest posting on his blog, ”The 1MDB Reply,” asking for documentary evidence.
On Tuesday, 1MDB, in a lengthy statement, replied to Mahathir’s earlier queries and claims on various issues relating to the strategic development company.
1MDB said it has responded to Mahathir, in detail and with verifiable facts.
“Now, having been presented with the facts by 1MDB, Dr Mahathir has asked for documentary evidence.
“As 1MDB has clearly stated, all evidence and proof relating to 1MDB’s business and financial transactions has been shared with independent auditors and Malaysia’s lawful authorities,” it said in a statement.
These authorities can then take action accordingly, per due process, and the law of Malaysia, it said.
Notwithstanding the above, 1MDB reiterated that it remained fully focused on the delivery of its rationalisation plan.
As has already been achieved with Edra Energy, this will see Tun Razak Exchange and Bandar Malaysia becoming standalone companies, with full accountability for their operational and financial performance, the statement added.
It said the recent repayment of a RM3.6 billion loan reflected 1MDB’s commitment to reduce its overall debt levels in tandem with the implementation of the rationalisation plan.
The company is confident of generating maximum value for its 100% ultimate shareholder, the Malaysian government, it added.
