Putrajaya may take over water supply from Selangor
(TMI) – Putrajaya may take over the operational control of water supply distribution in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya if the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor remains unresolved.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said this could be the last resort as Putrajaya was committed to solving the problems with diplomacy to maintain the confidence of the private sector.
“In the interest of the nation, the federal government may use this approach under Section 114 of the Water Services Industry Act 2006.
“(But) we are still willing to be diplomatic. Failing which, we apply Section 114… (if we still fail) I can declare an emergency and then the military will take over. Do you want to do that? No. We want to avoid that.”
He said this when winding up the debate on the motion of urging Putrajaya to act accordingly on the issues of restructuring the water services industry in Selangor, and the Langat 2 water treatment plant project and its distribution system.
