Rafizi: Selangor now a unity gov’t of three allies
The status of the three allies back to before 1 April 2008 when Pakatan was formed by DAP, PKR and PAS.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli said that the Selangor Government was now a unity government of DAP, PKR and PAS in support of the leadership of Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
“In any government, be it in Kelantan, Penang or Selangor, it has to be formed according to democratic rules and principles,” he said in the lobby of Parliament House. “The constitutions of these states, much like Parliament, allow the majority to form the government.”
Rafizi added that while Pakatan was now defunct in a formal sense, it does not mean the end of the Opposition at the Federal level.
He said it was now up to individual parties to decide on their own position on government policy matters and entertain, or otherwise, alternative views.
Rafizi said, “When one party cannot work with the other or when a party decides to sever ties with another, then we have an impasse, because it has to be decided by consensus.”
Rafizi ventured that with the three allies – DAP, PKR and PAS — in Pakatan Rakyat, the informal opposition alliance, no longer “bound” by agreements between them, things are back to before 1st of April of 2008 when there was no Pakatan.
The initial agreement between the three parties that formed the alliance was to make collective decisions only based on consensus and compromise, but it was not observed, said Rafizi.
