Salleh: ‘Incoherent’ Mahathir an embarrassment to M’sia
Sabah State Speaker says the former premier’s New York Times interview was littered with inconsistent and contradictory statements.
(Free Malaysia Today) – An interview Dr Mahathir Mohamad has had with the New York Times has become an embarrassment to Malaysia, said Salleh Said Keruak because the former premier was making inconsistent and contradictory statements throughout.
In his latest blog posting, the Sabah State Speaker said, “He is beginning to sound extremely incoherent that it has become an embarrassment to Malaysia.”
He made this comment based on excerpts of the interview where Mahathir attributed Malaysia’s stability and economic growth to Barisan Nasional, which he described as a solid coalition that existed till today until Pakatan Rakyat that had already been dissolved.
Later on however Mahathir suggested that because BN had broken up, it was going to lose the next general election and plunge the country into a state of instability.
Salleh also related how Mahathir first said that democracy was about the right of the people to choose their own leaders but followed that statement with one that said if the people did this, and did not choose Barisan Nasional, then Malaysia would become unstable.
“So what is Dr Mahathir really trying to say because he sounds very confused,” Salleh remarked.
He also took issue with Mahathir calling Prime Minister Najib Razak a criminal and assuming he was guilty until proven innocent.
