PAS will work with anyone but not ‘chauvinists’, Hadi says
(Malay Mail Online) – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said today that his party is willing to cooperate with any party but will not work with “chauvinists”, a remark believed to be directed at his foes in the DAP.
According to Malaysiakini, the PAS leader made the statement this evening when pressed for comments on PAS’s position in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) crisis.
“We will work with any party except chauvinists,” he was quoted saying.
Hadi also repeated his previous assertion that PR still exists despite DAP’s claim earlier this week that the fledgling pact is dead.
“I’m still walking, I’m not dead yet,” he was quoted by the news portal as saying after a walkabout at the Kampung Baru Ramadan bazaar.
“What is a Pakatan? There must be at least two right? Pakatan still exists because PKR has not decided,” he added.
PAS had on June 6 approved a motion to sever ties with the DAP while still remaining with PKR in PR.
The motion followed a similar decision by the DAP earlier to cut ties with Hadi over the latter’s penchant for making unilateral decisions, especially over the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.
Earlier this week, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng declared PR dead and blamed Hadi for the pact’s demise, saying PAS president’s recent actions as well as the Islamist party’s decision at its congress this month to sever ties with DAP meant PR’s Common Policy Framework was broken.
A day later, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said her party regretted PAS’ muktamar resolution to cut ties with DAP as well as DAP’s declaration that their three-party partnership was over.
“In light of this, the political coalition that is Pakatan Rakyat no longer functions formally,” she said.
But the opposition leader said she hoped the spirit of cooperation between the three parties in Selangor and Penang would continue — despite the recent developments.
Since then, several PR leaders have issued conflicting remarks on the pact’s status, with Hadi saying on Friday that the DAP cannot unilaterally decide to end its existence.
