Johor DAP moves to build new alliances
After breakup of Pakatan Rakyat, now to work with PAS progressives, Umno dissidents
(Free Malaysia Today) – Johor DAP is to forge ahead with new political alliances, especially by working with PAS progressives and dissidents in Umno to end the Barisan Nasional’s hold on the state.
Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong said in a statement today that Johor was the crucial battleground for a political realignment.
He said the party’s state leadership had agreed to work with all anti-Umno political forces who were willing to subscribe to the common policy framework of the Pakatan Rakyat, including the progressives in PAS.
The state leadership accepted that Pakatan Rakyat had ceased to exist and that it was the beginning of a political realignment.
“We are keenly aware the DAP would not be able to defeat Umno’s entrenched hegemony on its own,” he said. “We must form alliances and coalitions with likeminded individuals and political forces”
He said the state DAP would work with those in Johor who supported PAS progressives, and capitalise on dissent in Johor Umno if deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, a former Johor Umno leader and former menteri besar, was dropped from the Cabinet.
