Guan Eng hasty in killing Pakatan, says PAS
(Bernama) – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was hasty when declaring that the Pakatan Rakyat no longer existed, said a PAS leader today.
PAS national information chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi said Lim had not referred to the leadership of the component parties of the opposition pact before making the announcement.
He had acted although PAS had yet to decide on the resolution by the Ulama Council to sever the party’s ties with the DAP.
He said the Syura Council (the party’s decision-making body) would hold a special meeting to discuss the issue and other current developments soon after the spiritual leader, Harun Din, returns from performing the umrah.
“What happened was that the DAP had decided to sever ties with the Pakatan Rakyat and PAS. So, this is something interesting because the motion of the PAS national Ulama Council was implemented by the DAP whereas we had yet to make any decision and resolution on the matter,” he told reporters after a ceremah by the PAS central leadership in Pongsu Seribu on Saturday night.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, vice-president Idris Ahmad and the state PAS leadership were present.
Nasrudin said PAS had forged cordial relations with the other component parties in the Pakatan Rakyat except that the DAP had previously taken a stand to sever ties with PAS and the Pakatan Rakyat.
Nasrudin said what had transpired was a provocation which had been attempted even from before. “What they (DAP) want to do, how they want to voice their views, and the attitude that they want to adopt, is up to them. But the PAS stand until today is that we are still with the Pakatan Rakyat,” he said.
He told those members of the state PAS leadership who held positions in the Penang state government to continue to discharge their responsibilities as usual.
Asked about a proposal to set up a new political party initiated by Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia and the G18 group, Nasrudin likened it to a temporary phenomenon after the “fever” of the PAS general assembly.
