New G18 party will weaken opposition, says PAS
Tuan Ibrahim says additional party will give Umno-BN better chance of victory
(Free Makaysia Today) – Defeated PAS progressives have been urged to think twice about forming a new political party.
Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, the new PAS deputy president, said although it was within their democratic rights, the progressive leaders should not do so merely because they lost in the party elections early this month.
“If they want to set up a new party, what is the purpose? It says it wants to fight corruption, many parties are doing that already,” he was quoted as saying.
Tuan Ibrahim said having another party aligned to the Opposition would only weaken the pact, not strengthen it.
“Setting up a party aligned to the Opposition would create a conflict when it comes to contesting the general election,” he was quoted as saying.
