‘New’ Pakatan to include ‘progressive’ and far-sighted members
(NST) – The new Pakatan framework will include those who are progressive and far-sighted, Selangor DAP vice president Datuk Teng Chang Khim said today.
He told reporters that the process to draft a new framework has already been initiated but it will take time to develop.
“It takes time to engage everyone concerned to get the framework drafted out so it cannot happen within a week.
“What’s more important is that the process has been initiated,” he said after officiating the ground-breaking ceremony of Tien Ann Kong temple at Tanjung Karang, here, yesterday.
Due to people’s concerns over the recent developments in Pakatan, he said the parties needed to act swiftly to convince the people that the Selangor government is still in control and the people’s future will be secured.
He stressed that the new Pakatan can be named PR2 or any other name but its content was more important and relevant to the future of the people compared to its name.
He also emphasised that the new Pakatan framework will involve all parties, individuals and non-governmental organisations who are concerned with and interested in the future of Malaysia.
When asked whether Pas is going to be part of the new Pakatan, Teng coyly replied “well, (it will include) people who are progressive and far-sighted”.
In response to Pas Mursyidul Am Datuk Dr Haron Din’s questioning of DAP’s motive in creating a rift in Pakatan, Teng said the ulama should not “cry over a dead horse”.
“Everything is over. What we are looking forward is to realign ourselves and to move forward. “Whatever has happened I don’t think we should go back. Let the historians and political academicians review it.
“I don’t know why he still wants to talk about old stories, it doesn’t help now. that is the difference between the progressive and non-progressive,” he said.
Instead, Teng urged Pakatan to look towards the future and its new framework and not waste time talking about the past or what cannot be salvaged.
It was reported that Haron had questioned DAP’s intentions in choosing to announce their severing of ties with Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang just before the Pas muktamar.
Haron had also questioned DAP’s decision to unilaterally announce that Pakatan is dead after Pas muktamar approved a motion to urge the Pas Shura Council to discuss cutting ties with DAP.
According to Pas leaders, DAP had jumped the gun as the Shura Council has not met to discuss and decide on the matter.
However, Teng said it did not matter to DAP anymore.
“We are not interested. It doesn’t matter to us already, it is over,” he said.
