PAS won’t budge on hudud, will go ahead in Kelantan
Hadi says party will ignore critics: let them make noise, we go ahead
(Free Malaysia Today) – The PAS plans to enforce hudud criminal penalties in Kelantan will go ahead, party president Abdul Hadi Awang said today, vowing to ignore criticism and opposition from others.
PAS would not budge, he said. “In this matter, PAS does not want to fight, but there are quarters wanting to fight with us. Let them be, let them make noise, we go ahead with our agenda,” he said at a party ceramah in Pongsu Seribu here on Saturday night.
He said the party would proceed with its agenda to implement the state law on hudud and would continue to seek an amendment to the federal law, the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 to allow hudud to be enforced in Kelantan.
Abdul Hadi said the hudud law was not intended to penalise criminals, but to educate them and protect victims.
“For example, the whipping sentence is not the same as the whipping sentence imposed by civil courts,” he said, according to Bernama.
