MCA: DAP must cut ties with PKR over Wan Azizah’s support of hudud
(The Star) – DAP has been told to cut ties with PKR after its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail appeared to back certain provisions of hudud.
MCA religious harmony deputy chairman Ng Chok Sin said Dr Wan Azizah’s qazaf (false accusation) suit against lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah on behalf of her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was proof that she backed the Islamic law.
“We are interested to know, after severing ties with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, will DAP also cut its relationship with PKR and Wan Azizah, now that the PKR president had openly declared her support for hudud law?” Ng said in a statement.
He said DAP should not practise double standards, and immediately declare that it will no longer work with PKR.
“For political benefit consideration, DAP may still want to hang on to PKR without Wan Azizah, just like when it only severed ties with Hadi but not his party, as we should not expect much from DAP,” added Ng, who is also Selangor MCA state liaison secretary.
Dr Wan Azizah had lodged the qazaf report against Shafee at the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) in Shah Alam on Friday over accusations the lawyer previously made about Anwar’s sodomy tendencies.
She had stated that Shafee was unable to produce four witnesses to back his claims, which meant he was liable to qazaf, which is a crime under Syariah law.
