Salleh: Are latest revelations on 1MDB ‘dud bombs’ too?
Salleh Said Keruak points to one similar incident in the past that was proven to be false
(Free Malaysia Today) – Speaking about the latest explosive revelations by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Sarawak Report today regarding more wrongdoing at 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Salleh Said Keruak asked it this too was going to turn out to be yet another “dud bomb”.
Both WSJ and the whistleblower website have alleged that USD700 million of 1MDB funds had been channelled into the private bank account of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
In his latest blog post, the Sabah State Speaker pointed out one inconsistency, saying that SR referred to “investigators” only while WSJ was more specific and said “Malaysian investigators”.
“We do not really know which ‘investigators’ or ‘Malaysian investigators’ they are referring to and whether, in the first place, this report is accurate.
“After all, it is yet to be confirmed whether the earlier documents that SR published are legitimate or have been doctored and police investigations are still ongoing.”
He said this latest expose reminded him of a similar incident in 1999 when details of the bank accounts of Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Daim Zainuddin were revealed.
“On further checking, however, not only did these bank accounts not exist but the Israeli bank that was named was fictitious as well. So even the bank does not exist,” he said, adding that 16 years on, the list was still circulating on the Internet with still many considering it “hot news”.
