Penang and Terengganu PAS to fully support party decision on ending relationships

(Bernama) – Penang and Terengganu PAS leaders have backed the party’s decision to revoke political cooperation with the DAP, but Selangor PAS said it would continue in the state government until it received further instructions from the national leadership.

On Saturday, Penang PAS members were urged to fully support the decision by the Shura Council, the party’s supreme decision-making body, to ratify an emergency motion adopted at the party congress earlier this month to end relationships.

The division between PAS and DAP, both members of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, climaxed at the PAS congress on June 4 when the assembly adopted an emergency motion from the Dewan Ulama to revoke political cooperation with DAP but continue political cooperation with PKR, the other partner in the coalition.

Penang PAS Information chief Mohd Yusni Mat Piah advised members not to act hastily. “Continue to uphold our ethics. Listen and obey the decision made by the party leadership,” he said in a statement on Saturday. Mohd Yusni said Penang PAS fully supported the decision.

On July 6, Penang PAS commissioner Fauzi Mohd Yusof said PAS would file a civil suit against the state government for sacking the party’s representatives from the administration.

Terengganu PAS also said the state party fully backed the party decision and was prepared for any backlash, according to its state commissioner, Satiful Bahri Mamat. He urged all PAS supporters to stand solidly behind the Ulama Council.

In Shah Alam, however, Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad said the state leadership was awaiting further instructions from the national leadership.

Selangor PAS would continue to cooperate with the DAP in the state and PAS members holding executive council and other positions in the state would continue discharging their duties pending directives from the central committee.
