Ousted PAS leaders form new political party
(Bernama) – Several ousted PAS leaders have formed a new political party called Gerakan Harapan Baru (Harapan Baru).
Pro tem committee chairman, Mohamad Sabu said the party hoped to unite all political parties under Pakatan Rakyat and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in line with their ideology.
“Harapan Baru will support the Islamic struggle, be inclusive and care for the people,” he told a press conference at the party’s launch, here, today.
Among the pro tem committee members present were former Selangor Menteri Besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib, former PAS secretary-general Kamaruddin Jaafar, former PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub and other former senior party leaders like Khalid Samad, Mohd Hatta Ramli and Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
Also present was Ahmad Awang who failed to oust PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang at the party elections during its annual general assembly last month.
Mohamad Sabu lamented that the fragility of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition had affected political cooperation in the Selangor and Penang state governments.
“Our Islamic politics will emphasise on integrity and trust in governance and administration.”
Asked about the registration of Harapan Baru, he said the pro tem committee was waiting for confirmation from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
