Selangor PAS moots new mechanism to keep state under opposition rule
(The Malaysian Insider) – Selangor PAS is hoping that a new mechanism can be put in place to ensure smooth administration of the the state, after the Shura Council, considered the party’s highest decision-making body, decided to revoke its political cooperation with DAP.
Its central committee member, Sallehen Mukhyi, said for the time being there was no reason for the party’s state assemblymen to quit the state government.
He said the party’s central committee had to decide on a mechanism and strategies to resolve the situation because the state must remain under by the three opposition parties, PAS, DAP and PKR.
“In this context, we will leave the decision to PAS central committee to come up with the suitable mechanism. For the time being, there is no problem between us and everything is running as usual,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Sallehen also said the party also depended on PKR and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to provide the avenue to function and continue the relationship in the name of the “state government”.
“Now it all depends on PKR and the ‘comfort level’ the party is willing to give us. At the same time, PKR can continue working with the DAP as usual,” he said.
The assemblyman for Sabak added that DAP should also come up with ways the three parties could work together in Selangor since it was the first to declare that the Pakatan Rakyat pact’s demise.
“It is not surprising that DAP decided that Pakatan is no more. So, it is only fitting that the party also figure out ways to cooperate without the pact,”
“As for PAS, we will discuss on our own,” he said.
