(Bernama) – Bukit Aman has formed a team that will take off to Bangkok and investigate former PetroSaudi International (PSI) executive Xavier Andre Justo over his claim that he had met key Malaysian Opposition politicians to sell classified information.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said a team was ready to go to Bangkok to start investigations but Bukit Aman was still awaiting the go-ahead from Thai police.

“We are still waiting for a reply from the Thai police so that we can go there and record a statement from Justo. If possible, we want to go there as soon as possible because this is a major case and a detailed investigation is needed,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

Last Thursday, Thai police confirmed that Justo, a Swiss national, had met with key Opposition politicians at a hotel in Singapore to sell confidential PSI information.

Thai police arrested Justo on June 22 on charges of blackmailing PSI, an international company based in Saudi Arabia and linked to a controversy surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Khalid hinted that the investigation could take a long time but did not reveal the identity, number of officers or who would head the team.

Asked if Malaysia would appeal for Justo’s extradition to Malaysia, Khalid said no decision toward that request had been made but much would depend on the investigations carried out.

“The course of our investigation will determine if Justo’s extradition is required or not,” he said.
