Edge Weekly, Edge Financial Daily suspended
The Edge Media Group plans to go to Court on the suspension and challenge the Home Ministry’s reasons behind its action.
(Free Malaysia Today) – The Edge Media Group has confirmed in a statement that the Home Ministry has suspended The Edge Weekly and The Financial Daily for three months effective July 27.
A letter from the Ministry, according to the statement, explained the decision was taken following the reporting in the two papers which were “prejudicial or likely to be prejudicial to public order, security or likely to alarm public opinion or is likely to be prejudicial to public and national interest”.
Failure to stop publication for three months will result in the withdrawal of the publishing permits, the letter from the Ministry warned.
“To our readers and fellow Malaysians, you can continue to read our work through our digital platforms like theedgemarkets.com, theedgeproperty.com, themalaysianinsider.com and edgy.com,” said The Edge Media Group publisher and CEO Ho Kay Tat who expressed disappointment with the Home Ministry’s decision.
“The Edge will go to court and try and get the suspension lifted.”
“Other digital options to deliver the news will also be explored.”
Ho added that he doesn’t see how exposing the scam to cheat the people of Malaysia of billions of Ringgit can be construed as being detrimental to public and national interest. “This is nothing more than a move to shut us down in order to shut us up.”
