‘What they are trying to do is a coup’

Malaysia Army Day

(The Rakyat Post) – The government is now facing internal and external attacks by those aiming at the country’s economic and financial sectors.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Assoc Prof Mohamad Md Yusoff said the external threats could be seen from the unhealthy sentiments played by foreign agencies such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) which had impacted the country’s currency.

He said these sentiments, the rising cost of living and inflation among others have managed to scare investors away and this, has directly affected the economy.

The government, he added, were also being threatened by attacks from international media including Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Sarawak Report (SR) and local media that have incessantly played ambiguous reports involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

These news agencies, Mohamad, said, were receiving assistance from people on the inside, including Opposition leaders who seemed to be devising a plan to topple the government of the day through made up issues.

“This is scary as attempting to topple the government which was elected by the people is wrong in the eye of the law. What they are trying to do is a coup and they are doing this by playing out issues that are still unverified,” he told The Rakyat Post today.

Commenting on the predicament faced by Opposition Members of Parliament Tony Pua and Rafizi Ramli who had recently been barred from leaving the country, Mohamad said the move taken by the authorities was a wise one as the duo had allegedly been linked to allegations of tampering with documents provided by former PetroSaudi International executive Xavier Andre Justo.

He added that the restriction was necessary to prevent more tampered and fabricated 1MDB documents from being taken out of the country or destroyed.

“They may be involved in investigations over 1MDB and the immigration definitely has the right to stop them from leaving the country.

“Our country is being attacked and preventative measures such as this is important, including banning Sarawak Report’s website which has been seen as a threat to national security.”
