Hadi applies to strike out suit preventing tabling of hudud bill
(The Star) – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has filed an application to strike out a suit brought by four individuals to prevent him and Parliament from tabling a Bill on hudud in Parliament.
The four – Mansoor Saat, Azira Aziz, Hasbeemaputra Abu Bakar and Hazwany Jamaluddin – filed the suit against Hadi, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, his deputies Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said and Datuk Ronald Kiandee and secretary Datuk Roosme Hamzah.
The suit was meant to stop Hadi and Parliament from tabling a Bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 at any Parliament sitting.
Hadi had filed the striking out application together with his affidavit in support on July 2.
Senior Federal Counsel Shamsul Bolhassan told reporters later after meeting High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) judge Justice Asmabi Mohamad that the judge had fixed Sept 28 to hear Hadi’s application.
