In Friday meet, Umno Supreme Council to review Muhyiddin’s role, says insider
(MMO) – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s role as Umno deputy president is in question after he was axed as deputy prime minister yesterday.
While his position remains secure as he was elected by party members, the Supreme Council can reduce his role given several factors at hand, including the upcoming annual general assembly.
A high-ranking party official said Muhyiddin’s sacking from the Cabinet should not affect his position in Umno and as chairman of the party’s administrative committee unless “the council decides to change the convention and ultimately change the function of the deputy president.”
Under Umno convention, the deputy president takes charge of administrative matters. The deputy president is also tasked to launch annual general assemblies of the party’s wings — Wanita, Youth and Puteri.
