(The Malaysian Insider) – Police have arrested two people – a former anti-graft agency adviser and an officer from the Attorney-General’s Chambers – as part of their investigations into the debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.

One of them – a former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) adviser – had reportedly met Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown (pic above) in London’s Hyde Park recently while the other is part of the unit for anti-money laundering activities.

The Malaysian Insider understands that remand orders for both will be obtained today.

A magistrate from the Petaling Jaya courts is said to be headed for the Petaling Jaya police headquarters where remand proceedings will be held.

Sources said the former MACC adviser and AGC officer were picked up early this morning, one of them in Bangsar.

These developments come as a special task force is investigating allegations of financial wrongdoing in 1MDB, as well as claims by The Wall Street Journal that billions of ringgit from 1MDB-linked entities had flowed into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s accounts.

Police have also said they will investigate members of the special task force handling the case, following instructions from the AGC on July 8 on the “criminal act of leaking classified documents to foreign nationals”.
