Najib Razak claims that MACC said the RM2.6 billion was not a bribe and was not for personal gain.

(Free Malaysia Today) – Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had cleared him of the RM2.6 billion donation because it had been the practice for a long time with Umno. “They said that it was not a bribe and it was not from 1MDB. It was not for personal gain.”

‘Even when Mahathir Mohamad was Prime Minister, his deputy did not question him,” said Najib, who is also Umno President and Pekan MP, during his speech at the Umno Pasir Gudang’s annual general meeting on Sunday. “Trust me, I am doing this for the party.”

Najib went on to reiterate that the RM2.6 billion was a donation for political purposes, “for the sake of Umno”, as well as for corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. “If you ask me for money, who should I ask for money? I have to make an effort (to find the money) but I won’t do something against the law.”

Najib stressed that the Opposition also received political donations “but they just don’t disclose it”.
