Najib to chair meeting with BN party heads
(The Star) – Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will chair a meeting with presidents of Barisan Nasional component parties today, raising much interest given the current political climate.
While this may be an ordinary meeting between the Prime Minister and the party heads, there is much speculation as to why Najib has summoned them.
Apart from the presidents of Barisan’s 13 component parties, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will also sit in at the meeting scheduled for 11am today.
Sources with knowledge of the meeting said it would be between the Barisan chairman and party presidents and not the coalition’s supreme council meeting, which would see bigger attendance.
The Barisan supreme council meeting is also attended by the deputy president and secretary-general of each party.
“Datuk Seri Najib is meeting with component party presidents. There is nothing extraordinary about it,” said a source.
Component party heads played down the significance of the meeting.
PPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas said: “It’s one of those meetings that we usually have with the Barisan chairman.”
