Wait till election to choose
(Borneo Post) – Communications and Multimedia minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak yesterday urged the people to wait until the next election to make their choice on who should rule the country.
He said that the present government has been given the mandate and that it should be allowed to carry out all its promises to the people until the next election.
He also reminded them that it was not wrong to have differences in opinions but the people shouldn’t adopt the culture of cursing others who do not share their views.
“Even if you cannot agree, keep it to yourself and look at the performance of the government until the time comes for the election to take place. There we can make our comparisons and our choices,” he said at a simple ceremony held for citizens of his ministry at the KKMM complex near here yesterday.
He reminded that if people indulged in the culture of cursing others who do not share their views, problems and rifts would be created and dampen the political stability of the country.
“We need to arrive to a stage where we can respect one another despite having differences in opinion. If we practice this, there will be no problem even with differences in ideas and views.”
He added that it wasn’t wrong to have differences in opinion since Malaysia was a democratic country and has adopted the system of democracy.
“The people can make their own choice whether they want to support the present ruling party or other parties,” he said.
“It is fine if we have differences in opinion. That is our right. But don’t make false allegations and baseless claims because this will cause our country to fall into uncertain political situation.
“If we are not satisfied, we have our rights during the public election. It is up to the respective party to assure the people by doing their best.”
He also said that Barisan Nasional (BN) was not the best party in the world since it has its own problems and issues.
However, other parties are even worse, he reminded and urged the people to not be deceived by the information they receive.
He also said that politicking should be done during the election and should not be made into an everyday activity.
Salleh then reminded the importance of the country’s independence and urged the people to take care of it.
“Outsiders are unhappy of our independence and they are trying to create chaos in the country’s political situation,” he said.
While making his address, Salleh also urged the citizens of KKMM to fly the national flag this month in conjunction with the Merdeka Day celebration.
He also announced the appointment of Ali Ngasio as Sabah’s Broadcasting Department director.
Ali was previously the State deputy Broadcasting department director prior to the announcement.
“I hope all heads of departments will give their cooperation,” said Salleh.
