(The Star) – The commissioner, deputy commissioner and vice-commissioner of Shah Alam PAS have tendered in their resignations from their party posts.

The resignations of commissioner Azli Yusof, deputy Zulkifli Mohf Nani and vice-comissioner Mohamad Jamil Abd Rahim along with that of 18 other committee members for the 2015-2017 session took effect on Wednesday.

The chief of the Shah Alam Women’s wing, her deputy, vice-chief and eleven other Women’s committee members have also resigned.

The entire committee from the Shah Alam PAS Supporters Congress (PHBB) have also vacated their posts.

“The announcements were officially made during the fifth PAS division meeting for the 2015-2017 session, held on Wednesday. Duties were handed over to the Shah Alam PAS secretary in an atmosphere of mutual understanding,” Thursday’s statement read.

“The resignations are not intended to undermine the Shah Alam PAS machinery, but in order to fight for Islam in a method in which we are more confident of,” the statement read.

Earlier, thirteen key members from the 22-person Shah Alam PAS division’s Youth wing committee resigned from their positions citing the current political climate as one of the reasons behind their decision.

The Shah Alam Youth Chief, Deputy Youth Chief, Vice Youth Chief and ten other committee members stepped down on Aug 11.

It is speculated that the resignations are the beginning of the exodus from PAS into the party’s splinter group Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB).

While still operating as an NGO, GHB is expected to launch as a political party soon under the name of Amanah.
