Dr M says ‘still thinking’ of joining Bersih 4, but urges Malaysians to show ‘people power’

Mahathir

(Malay Mail Online) – A few hours after the Bersih 4 rallies kicked off in three cities nationwide at 2pm today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that he may yet join in the pro-democracy demonstrations against the government that is expected to continue for 34 hours and end only at midnight tomorrow.

In Johor to deliver a talk titled “Malaysia Hari Ini: Ke Mana Kita?” (Malaysia Today: Where are we headed?) jointly organised by Yayasan Pengurusan Ilmu and Kelab Chedet Malaysia, the 90-year-old former prime minister also encouraged Malaysians to demonstrate their “people power”.

“I’m still thinking,” he said in Bahasa Malaysia when asked if he would attend the two-day Bersih 4 rally that is taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and Kuching in Sarawak and several other cities worldwide now.

Despite retiring from the post of prime minister over almost 12 years ago, Dr Mahathir remains a prominent and influential figure whose outspoken and frank views regularly dominate headlines — both domestically and internationally.
