Ex-Special Branch No. 2 finally receives show-cause letter

Abdul-Hamid-Bador

(The Malaysian Insider) – Former Special Branch deputy director Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador has finally received a show-cause letter from the Bukit Aman police headquarters for speaking to the media about his abrupt transfer and on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Hamid received the letter signed by Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today, which asked him to provide a written explanation as to why he violated police conduct in disclosing such matters to the press.

He has two weeks to respond to the letter.

Hamid confirmed that he received the letter but declined to elaborate.

Khalid last week told the media that Hamid would be issued a show-cause letter for speaking to the press about his abrupt transfer out of the police’s intelligence unit and 1MDB.

The IGP said Hamid was bound by the rules of the police force and could not issue statements to the media.

Hamid was transferred out of the Special Branch last month to take up a new post as deputy head of a new outfit, the transnational crime division in the Prime Minister’s Department which reported directly to the prime minister.

Hamid had said he believed the transfer was meant to put him in “cold storage” as the post and the unit had not been set up properly.

He also vowed to continue speaking out on “current issues”, and subsequently told the press that Special Branch had told Putrajaya two years ago to give better answers on alleged scandals involving 1MDB.
