‘If Mahathir wants to take a walk, let him’
Nazri Aziz says Dr M’s appearance at Bersih 4 was his way of making amends for his mistakes
(Free Malaysia Today) – Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz sees Mahathir Mohamad’s appearance at last weekend’s Bersih 4 rally as an admission that he made mistakes when he was Prime Minister.
Speaking to reporters after launching a tourism-oriented radio station here today, Nazri pointed out that Mahathir was against demonstrations when he was in power.
“It wasn’t something that he liked during his time,” he said. “But now that he’s already 90 years old, he feels that what he did during his time was wrong. That’s the reality. His attending the demonstrations is his admission that he was wrong.
“If he felt that what he did when he was prime minister was right, he wouldn’t have been there.”
Nazri made snide remarks to downplay Mahathir’s presence at the rally.
“No need to waste time,” he said. “I didn’t see Tun Mahathir throwing bombs, breaking doors and windows. He wants to take a walk, let him.
“To my mind, this is a boost for Malaysia’s good name. We take care of our old folks so well that they have the energy to join demonstrations.”
