Muhyiddin braces for the worst
(The Sun Daily) – UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his supporters are ready for the worst possible fate to befall the former deputy prime minister tomorrow when the party’s supreme council meets, and will not go down without a fight, Oriental Daily News reported today.
A Muhyiddin loyalist told the daily that if Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak wants to remove Muhyiddin as the party No. 2, he will not find it as smooth as sacking Muhyiddin as the deputy prime minister, because the latter is not going to take it without a fight.
Umno has yet to disclose the meeting’s agenda but talk is rife that Najib is ready to sack several senior leaders including Muhyiddin.
According to a name list that has gone viral on social media, others who will face the axe include vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Kulim Bandar Baru MP Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, former Terengganu mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Datuk Hamidah Osman and Datuk Jumat Idris, all of whom had been vocal on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue..
Several Umno leaders, including vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, have denied speculation that Muhyiddin would be sacked from his party post but there are also leaders, such as Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, calling for the removal of Muhyiddin to make way for vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is deputy prime minister.
It is learnt that right after returning from his trip to Australia, Muhyiddin had gathered his lawyers to strategise for the supreme council meeting.
“Muhyiddin accepted his removal as deputy prime minister because the appointment to and removal from the post is at the discretion of Najib.
“However, Muhyiddin’s position as party No. 2 is an elected one and it goes against the party constitution for the supreme council to remove him from the post,” said the Muhyiddin loyalist.
