Umno members free to join Red Shirt rally, says DPM
Zahid Hamidi says it is the individual’s right to join any rally of his or her choice
(Free Malaysia Today) – Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed there will be no restriction on any Umno member who wished to participate in the upcoming Red Shirts rally, also called “Himpunan Maruah Melayu” (Malay Dignity Rally) this September 16 in Kuala Lumpur.
He said, this was because every Umno member had the right to join any rally he or she wished to attend.
“We will let the police give them a permit and conduct enforcement operations.
“The rally will be organised by an NGO and the NGO will invite Umno. It is an individual’s right to attend a rally,” he said during a media conference after a meeting on natural disaster management and aid which he chaired.
