Cops hold 1MDB critic 6 more days for activities against parliamentary democracy
(Malay Mail Online) – Police won a remand order today to detain Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan another six days in connection with his reports on 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to government agencies of other countries, his lawyer confirmed.
His lead counsel Stanley Augustin said the police are investigating the former Penang Umno division chief under Section 124 (C) of the Penal Code, for offences related to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
“Khairuddin has been remanded for six days till Thursday. The magistrate approved the remand after saying that is a need to investigate further as there is a connection,” he told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters where the 1MDB critic is being held.
Stanley also said the police claimed Khairuddin had handed false documents on 1MDB to international authorities for investigation.
“They said that the documents he gave to Swiss and French authorities are false,” the lawyer said.
He added that he had argued that the police could not know if the documents were genuine or false as they had yet to see the papers filed.
Khairuddin was arrested last night at his home in upscale Mont Kiara.
He was to have flown to New York yesterday morning where he reportedly was to meet the US government officials to seek their aid for investigations into the troubled state-owned strategic development fund.
However, he was denied permission to leave the country by immigration officials just as he was to board his flight.
