(Bernama) – The MCA is to convene a special session on Thursday to discuss at length the latest developments in the country, including the two recent rallies, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan (pix).

He said the meeting would be attended by all division chairmen, deputy chairmen, secretaries, Youth chairmen and Wanita chairmen.

“The recent public gatherings, coupled with the emergence of political, economic and racial issues have resulted in the situation in the country growing tense.

“MCA is deeply worried at the ongoing scenario. We shall discuss at length and come out with a uniform stand,” he said in a statement here today.

Ong also urged MCA members to keep calm and not resort to expressing views based on emotion as this, he said, would only aggravate the situation.

He said party members should also keep a cool mind, analyse matters rationally, and learn clearly the origins of the uneasiness facing the people now.

“MCA must persevere in line with the vision of our founding fathers, defend the rights of the Chinese community and other races, preserve the spirit of Malaysia’s Independence and ensure that all races are accorded their rights as enshrined in our Federal Constitution,” he added.
