(The Star) – The newly formed Pakatan Harapan was reminded to examine the legal implications and provisions regarding their choice of Prime Minister should they take over Putrajaya in the next general election.

PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara were asked by former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (pic) to relook their decision to name Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as their candidate of choice.

“The law has to be taken into consideration to see whether it is practical,” Khalid told reporters who approached him after the Hari Raya Haji prayers at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah mosque here.

At the Pakatan Harapan roundtable on Tuesday, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that the coalition still wanted Anwar to be the Prime Minister if it seized Putrajaya in the next general election.

Wan Azizah said the decision was unanimous among all parties in Pakatan Harapan as they felt he was the most suitable person to manage the country.

When contacted, a PKR insider said the party believed that Anwar was needed to revitalise the country’s economic landscape.

“He has vast experience and this will help revive our declining economy,” said the insider.

When asked about the legal implications that may arise due to Anwar’s prison term, the party man said the sodomy case will be pulled out for a review with a view to squash the sentence as soon as the Opposition ‘comes into power’.

“Then there won’t be any hindrance or obstacle for Anwar to lead the country,” he added.

He added there was also talk amongst certain quarters in the party that in the event a unity government was formed, PKR was willing for Anwar to be the deputy prime minister whilst Gua Musang MP Tengku Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah helmed the top post.
