Stop ‘fantasising’ China will help you, local Chinese told
Tajuddin Abdul Rahman reminds them that the Chinese Ambassador is only looking out for tourists from China, not rushing to help Malaysian Chinese
(Free Malaysia Today) – Malaysian Chinese were told by Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman to stop “fantasising” that the government of China would rush to their aid should trouble involving them break out in Malaysia.
In a report carried by Malaysiakini, Tajuddin, an Umno supreme council member and MP for Pasir Salak, said, “Chinese people in Malaysia, don’t fantasise that there will be a big boss coming, that there will be a Godfather coming from China to help you.
“Don’t fantasise like that.”
He made these remarks in light of the controversy that erupted this past week over a visit by the Ambassador of China Huang Huikang to Petaling Street on September 25, on the eve of what could have been a riot in the mostly-Chinese business district.
Angered by the controversy, Tajuddin said, ”I want to warn the Chinese Malaysians, don’t think when you have a problem, you want to complain. Just a little bit also complain, so that there will be people to protect them.
He reminded local Chinese that Huang’s visit to Petaling Street was to judge for himself if there was a need to issue a travel advisory to tourists from China after being informed of the likelihood of a riot there the next day.
