Harapan may cause PKR split, warns PAS leader
Tuan Ibrahim: Seeds of break-up already seen after petition to Wan Azizah
(Free Malaysia Today) – Parti Keadilan Rakyat was warned today by a leader of its partner PAS that the party could split up because of its new coalition with DAP and PAS dissidents in the new Amanah party.
Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, deputy president of PAS, said the party prayed that PKR would not suffer the same fate of internal break-up because of “outside interference by those with vested interests.”
He said a split in PKR would weaken the opposition’s strength.
PAS was formerly a partner with PKR and DAP in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, which broke up after divisions with the DAP. However, it remains a partner with PKR although PKR has now aligned itself with the DAP and breakaway PAS members who formed Amanah.
Tuan Ibrahim reiterated that PAS would not work with the new party.
He said “the hasty action to form Pakatan Harapan”, which was announced last week, shows the rakyat the self-interests of certain quarters that was the cause of Pakatan Rakyat’s break-up.
The PKR decision to be part of the new coalition has been challenged by 25 members of the central leadership, who are reported to have signed a petition to party president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the “premature creation” of the coalition.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS could never work with DAP, nor with Amanah, which has been actively recruiting PAS members.
