Saifuddin asks Umno to explain show-cause letter
Former deputy minister says party letter came from headquarters not discipinary board
(Free Malaysia Today) – Former deputy education minister Saifuddin Abdullah has asked Umno headquarters to explain a show-cause letter sent to him for attending an opposition party event.
He was quoted in a news report today as saying that it was unclear whether the party was writing to him as an Umno member or in his capacity as head of the Global Movement of Moderates organisation.
“The show cause letter is vague. Since it mentions that disciplinary action can be taken against me, I am asking what offence I have purportedly committed and which section of the party constitution I am alleged to have breached,” he was quoted as saying.
Saifuddin replied to the show-cause letter on Friday. He said the show cause letter was issued on behalf of Umno headquarters and not the disciplinary board and it was not clear if the case has been referred to the board.
A separate letter was sent on behalf of his organisation seeking clarification whether the show-cause letter was issued against him as an Umno member or in his capacity as the foundation’s head. Saifuddin is also head of Akademi Belia, a youth organisation.
