Ex-SB man dares Gani to talk about 1MDB
Hamid said there was some scandal or misconduct involving Gani that could be used to discredit him, and challenged the former Attorney-General to stand up to the threats.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Abdul Gani Patail has been challenged to speak about the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal which he had described as being “crystal clear” before he was dismissed as Attorney-General.
In an open letter to the government sent to the press, former Special Branch deputy director Abdul Hamid Bador questioned why Gani had gone silent and “totally mute” after his dismissal.
Hamid said Gani had been vocal about the 1MDB case, which was then being investigated by a task force comprising the AG’s Chambers, the anti-corruption agency MACC, the police and Bank Negara.
He said Gani had told him the case was “crystal clear”. But he had gone mute after being dismissed.
Hamid said he had been very confident about Gani’s ability to head the 1MDB special task force.
He said Gani had related at their last meeting that he was not trying to topple the government, and had told him that “this difficult decision that I have made is not about toppling the government. I am not interested in politics. I am just doing my job.”
Hamid said it had been suggested that there was some scandal or misconduct involving Gani that could be used to discredit him, and challenged the former Attorney-General to stand up to the threats.
“Come on, Gani! What is a small personal scandal, even if there is such, when compared to the horrific impact the 1MDB fiasco has on the nation!” he said. “People will easily forgive you. Come out and make a stand. All this while you were idolised as a tough fighter among the civil servants.”
