Sanusi: How Malaysia made Indonesians weep

(Free Malaysia Today) – Indonesians are weeping at their loss to Malaysia — not in badminton, but in corruption, former minister Sanusi Junid said sarcastically yesterday.

Sanusi, a longtime supporter of former premier Mahathir Mohamad, said: “The Indonesians are crying because they have lost to us but not in badminton. Because we now win in the category of corruption; if they won in the past, now we are more corrupt than them.”

His remarks, made at a high-tea public forum attended by Dr Mahathir, was a reference to public perceptions about the levels of corruption, which Dr Mahathir has used against Umno president and prime minister Najib Razak in his campaign to remove Najib from office.

Sanusi, a former menteri besar of Kedah and a former federal minister, also commented on the people’s perception that their livelihood depended on politicians instead of Allah, a belief that he said was enforced by politicians. He warned that if it continued, the Malays would become “bangsat”, using the term that Najib had used previously.

“As long as this situation is not corrected, we will be a race of ‘bangsat’ and we will lose in the general election,” he said.
