Gani Patail officially retires today
Former attorney-general turns 60 tomorrow, the mandatory age for civil servants to retire
(Free Malaysia Today) – Former Attorney-General Gani Patail officially retired today, one day shy of his 60th birthday, the mandatory retirement age for public servants in the country.
In a report in The Malaysian Insider, public relations officer from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) Mohamad Amsyari Mohamad Suhaimi said Gani did not conduct the symbolic clock-out as top civil servants usually did upon retirement and added, “He has been on leave since July 27 prior to retirement.”
Lawyer N Athimulan, in referring to his 20-year working relationship with the AG, said the job was a tedious one.
“But he (Gani) was candid and performed his task well, especially the job of public prosecutor.”
