‘Don’t say I’m afraid of the government just because I don’t approve certain motions.’

(Free Malaysia Today) – Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has demanded an apology from Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang for accusing him of abuse of power.

During yesterday’s Dewan Rakyat session, Lim said Pandikar had abused his power to sabotage the Public Accounts Committee’s probe into 1MDB affairs.

“Do not get me involved in your political agenda,” Pandikar said today.

Lim was absent from this morning’s session, but Pandikar told his colleagues to inform him of the demand for a retraction and apology. “Or else, there will be a motion presented soon,” he said without elaborating.

On July 30, Pandikar announced that the PAC probe had been put on hold until the committee had a new chairman following the appointment of its previous chairman, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, as Deputy Home Minister.

During arguments on the issue yesterday, Pandikar, citing standing orders, said the PAC could not continue with its proceedings when the Chairman’s post was vacant.

Lim disagreed and said Pandikar’s decision had resulted in slowing down the probe into 1MDB.
